Odds and Ends, at the end of the September

Hey  TUC’ers:

Sorry I won’t be with you this weekend, but you’ll be in the able hands of Dr. Jennifer Thomson, who graces our Thomas Paine Pulpit on Sunday.  Jennifer’s message is certain to be full of illustrative detail and rich with literary allusions.  Why would anyone expect otherwise: she’s been teaching English literature, most recently at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, for more than 25 years.   She’s now preparing for a career change as she continues her theological education at Meadville Lombard in Hyde Park–yet another example of how TUC has benefited in recent years from our association with Chicago’s training site for liberal ministry.  Also, many thanks to the TUC garden gurus who labored in our “vineyard” yesterday, as Chicago GreenCorps spent much of the day constructing a new raised planting bed in our backyard garden area.  The GreenCorps crew, led by TUC friend Brendon Gross, also worked on planting a small ornamental tree in the play area and placed chokeberry bushes underneath the magnolia tree at the corner of Mayfield and Fulton.  This work continues the expansion and beautification of the grounds of our landmark church home.  Many thanks again to Bill Graham, Gary Zacny, Mena Boulanger, Dorothy Wilz, Mary Hunter, Michele Kruegel and the “Johnny Appleseed” of TUC, the ubiquitous Jerry Parker, for their labors yesterday, and indeed all summer long!  In the meantime, I’ll see you next Sunday (“Association Sunday”), October 3rd, at TUC!

-Cheers,

Brian

  1. The TUC Community Garden just keeps getting better!
    Hoorah for the Garden Crew!

  2. The chance to get to know the great people was really rewarding — many happy memories were built.

Now, just try and hold on to and add to them! I’ll amass a treasure.
